这是一尊早期典型笈多风格的释迦牟尼佛立像,日光放射状的圆形头光,来源于希腊艺术太阳神阿波罗的样式,在犍陀罗和笈多艺术体系中都有呈现,笈多头光纹样呈现更加多层次的特点。
此尊造像高度13CM,合金铜实心铸造,外表残存红色朱砂,表面鎏金。
释尊佛螺发髻,脸部略微狭长,双耳未垂肩,着通肩大衣袈裟,右手残缺应当持无畏印,左手执袈裟衣角,手臂与胸膛的立体关系交代清晰,小腹微微隆起,袈裟紧贴腿部,勾勒出身体曲线,湿衣贴体,整体呈现典型的笈多萨尔纳特艺术风格。
释尊足部残缺,但依然呈现笃定的法相,是早期笈多艺术典型的样式,也是一尊极为难得的早期金铜造像。在南渚山房《Southeast asia buddhist art sumatra&java suculptre 2022》东南亚佛像苏门答腊与爪哇雕塑一本书里有辑录。
我们在纽约大都会博物馆和纳尔逊阿特金斯博物馆里都能够找到类似的早期造像,一尊是早期希腊犍陀罗风格。
一尊是笈多风格,还有若干两者风格结合的作品;说明当时人们对于犍陀罗和笈多风格的广泛接受和改造;
上面那尊青铜小佛像可能是犍陀罗释迦牟尼最早的标志性代表之一。他以瑜伽姿势坐着,右手握着袈裟衣角;他的发型、长袍的形式以及对人物的处理反映了与西方古典传统的风格接触。这尊佛像与任何其他现存的犍陀罗青铜器相比,与罗马雕塑的关系更为密切。
This is a typical Gupta-style standing statue of Sakyamuni in the early days. The sun-radiating circular head light comes from the style of Apollo, the sun god in Greek culture. We can see it in the Metropolitan Museum of New York and the Nelson-Atkins Museum Similar early statues were found, one in Gandhara style, the other in Gupta style, and several works combining the two styles; this shows that people at that time widely accepted and transformed Gandhara and Gupta styles;
This small bronze Buddha statue is probably one of the earliest iconic representations of Shakyamuni in Gandhara. He sits in a yoga pose, holding the abhaya mudra (an approachable pose) in his right hand; his unusual aura is jagged, suggesting radiant light. His hairstyle, the form of his robes, and his treatment of figures reflect a stylistic engagement with the classical Western tradition. The Buddha is more closely related to Roman sculpture than to any other surviving Gandhara bronze.
